It's only an hour train ride each way so it's not like you're going on a long all-day trip or anything. The conductor, even though he was a Rapid City Rush fan and I am a Colorado Eagles fan (both teams were rivals in the ECHL), he was still fun to interact with and talk about hockey for a while. It is a really interesting train ride and both the live hostess and the recorded tour guide offer up some great historical information about the mining days in the Black Hills and how important that railroad was to the region. This allowed us time to explore Hill City before getting on the train back to Keystone. This one did not disappoint! We got on at Keystone station and decided to take the later afternoon train from Hill City back to Keystone instead of doing the 15 minute layover. ![]() We are huge railfans so any place that has a train excursion, we're on it. ![]() ![]() My wife, 3 boys, and I recently visited the Black Hills and did the 1880 train.
